OCULUS Optikgeräte GmbH, Germany, has incorporated OCULUS Turkey A.S. as their 8th international subsidiary. Ideally located in Ankara, OCULUS Turkey will support new and existing customers throughout Turkey, North Africa and the Gulf Region.

OCULUS Optikgeräte GmbH took ownership of the majority of the capital of Optomes A.S., their exclusive dealer in Turkey. Sinan Ilicak, Managing Partner and CEO of OCULUS Turkey is pleased about the extension eastwards: “We are building upon the strong heritage of our parent company in Germany by providing ophthalmologists, optometrists and ophthalmic surgeons with innovative, high-quality ophthalmic products ‘Made in Germany´ together with the highest level in customer support.”

OCULUS, Inc. hosted Pentacam® Breakfast Seminars at the AAO 2014 in Chicago, where experts including Dr. Ike Ahmed, Dr. John Shammas, Dr. Thomas Kohnen and Dr. Michael Belin spoke about Optimizing the Outcomes of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. During the SOE congress in Bilbao, OCULUS' spanish subsidiary OCULUS Iberia hosted successfully the 4th Pentacam® User Meeting. Various interesting lectures of top class speakers filled the house. Thank you to all involved parties for this Event. We look forward to seeing the spanish speaking Pentacam® users next year at the 5th Pentacam® User Meeting.

ESCRS, EURETINA and EuCornea - three congresses at one place was the promising outlook for exhibitors in London. OCULUS successfully presented the exciting Corvis® ST with ist new functions to the more than 8,000 delegates of the EuCornea and ESCRS congress. Pentacam®, Keratograph 5M, the Perimeters and 'small devices' for refraction made the OCULUS booth interesting for eyerybody.

More than 5,000 attendees of the Euretina congress had the opportunity to discover the new single use items from OCULUS. Not only the world's first single-use wide angle viewing system for vitroretinal surgery, the BIOM® ready was presented, also the BIOM® Optic Set and the traditional BIOM® 5 gathered interest within the surgeons.

NASA made successful use of the Corvis® ST high-speed Scheimpflug camera during two parabolic flights on 5th and 6th June in Houston, Texas, USA. The OCULUS device examined the effect of microgravity on intraocular pressure and the biomechanics of the eyeball. This NASA-funded project constitutes a first step towards exploring reasons for loss of visual acuity in outer space; understanding what causes this loss is crucial to finding a solution to the problem.

For some time now it is a known fact that persons who spend prolonged periods of time in outer space experience a reduction of visual acuity. This is presumably caused by a redistribution of body fluids in microgravity. NASA researchers hypothesize that this might possibly change intraocular pressure and ultimately also the geometry and tension of the eyeball. Should this be the case, the long-term result would be damage to the visual nerve and loss of vision.

The OCULUS Corvis® ST is an ideal tool for analysing changes in the eye. Using an air puff the Corvis® ST induces corneal vibrations. The vibration behaviour of the cornea is recorded and analysed using a high-speed Scheimpflug camera which makes it possible to infer detailed data on intraoculuar pressure and the biomechanics of the eyeball.
