Four new software features will be introduced in the OCULUS Corvis® ST at the ESCRS 2019 in Paris. These updates will further increase the number of clinical applications that can be addressed based on corneal biomechanics.
They include the assessment of biomechanical stability after corneal refractive surgery, a biomechanical comparison display that allows monitoring biomechanical changes over time, the quantification of corneal elasticity based on the stress-strain behaviour of corneal tissue and a glaucoma screening software.

The new Pentacam® AXL Wave is the first device to combine Scheimpflug tomography with axial length, total eye wavefront, objective refraction and retroillumination. Providing all measurements in a single intuitive scanning process, the new Pentacam® AXL Wave is destined to become the single most important piece of equipment of every surgeon who performs cataract or refractive surgery.

OCULUS Surgical, Inc. subsidiary of the OCULUS Optikgeräte GmbH, Germany, held an expansion announcement ceremony on 7 February 2019 on the future site of the company’s planned 55 000-square-foot manufacturing facility in the Tradition Center for Commerce in Port St Lucie, Florida, USA.

“We look forward growing and expanding our manufacturing footprint in Port St. Lucie’s vibrant community of Tradition,” said Bob Zatarain, CEO of OCULUS Surgical.

Christian Kirchhübel and Rainer Kirchhübel, CEOs of the parent company OCULUS Optikgeräte GmbH, said they are very proud to be enlarging the OCULUS Surgical business in Port St. Lucie. “It is difficult to overstate our enthusiasm for Port St. Lucie and this project. The new people, space, equipment and technologies planned for this project will be of great assistance in maintaining our competitive position,” said Ross McDonough, director of quality and regulatory affairs for OCULUS Surgical.

“You have dedicated your entire working life to OCULUS”, says Co-Director Christian Kirchhübel, in his speech at his father’s 40th work anniversary at the company on 1 February 2019 in Wetzlar-Dutenhofen. “You have taken on all the challenges, and you lead the company with level-headedness and foresight. Your visions have led us to many successes."

In his speech, Rainer Kirchhübel looks only briefly at the past: “For 38 of my 40 years at OCULUS, I’ve been the Director. These years saw many great challenges, but I always enjoyed it.” From his start at the firm in 1979, engineer Rainer Kirchhübel led it to success as a worldwide high-tech company, and OCULUS is still a family company. Sons Christian and Matthias are executives at the company, and wife Rita Kirchhübel has been Director of Marketing for over 25 years.

Mr. Andreas Tielmann, Managing Director of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) in Lahn-Dill, presents Rainer Kirchhübel with a certificate in honour of his 40th work anniversary.

During this week’s city council meeting of the city of Port St. Lucie, FL, OCULUS took stage and presented the plans for enhancing our presence in the US.
